I am pleased that you will be a part of the Action Team for Dementia Friendly Tempe (DFT) to help us carry out the 4-step process provided by the Dementia Friendly America (DFA) Initiative.
I think that most of you were able to join us at the DFT Kickoff on March 19th as we drew almost 100 Tempe residents for a very interactive & engaging session. From that summit, we have identified over 40 people who want to become volunteers and stay actively engaged as we make Tempe the first dementia friendly community in Arizona! A summary video was just posted in case you missed the meeting. Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zJOFQaUBAY
We have a lot of work ahead of us and your role will largely be advisory in the process. We anticipate no more than 6 – 8 meetings over the next 12 months. The Action Team includes members of every sector identified by DFA to make sure we address our entire community. We want you to provide input relative to your sector and then guide us toward the assessment process for your given area. (We will provide much more detail in the coming meeting.) Once the assessments are complete, the DFT Action Team will help to identify priorities and craft an action plan for change.
In the meantime, we have many more activities that will take place to more immediately engage and support our community members and family caregivers who are living with dementia. We will update you about those activities at the meeting.
I want to thank you in advance for making time to join us at the upcoming meetings. Please mark your calendar for Monday, June 20, 2016 from 4- 5pm at the Tempe City Hall, Conference Room, 3rd floor.
